Import
Which chats it imports
No app can read your Messages database or another app’s files on an iPhone, and we won’t try. These are the routes Apple and the messaging apps actually allow. Apps with no export, such as Signal, Snapchat, WeChat and Viber, are not supported.
| iMessage & SMS | An Apple Shortcut uses the Messages actions Apple added in iOS 26 to read one conversation and pass it to the app.iOS 26 or later |
|---|---|
| Use WhatsApp’s own Export chat and share it to Text Records. Works with or without media.iOS 18 or later | |
| Instagram & Messenger | Meta’s data download from Accounts Center, plus Messenger’s own “Download message storage data” for end-to-end encrypted chats.iOS 18 or later |
| Telegram | The JSON chat export from Telegram Desktop, which is the only Telegram app that exports.A computer for the export |
| LINE | LINE’s own Export chat history, saved as a .txt file.iOS 18 or later |
Export
How an export works
Choose a date range and who is who, then export. Messages keep the order the source gave them, and every one shows where it came from and how precise its time is.
| Cover page, numbered messages, day separators, page numbers, attachment list. | |
| CSV | One row per message for spreadsheets, with formula-safe cells. |
| TXT | Plain text anyone can open, with a header describing the source. |
| Data file | The complete record in a format other apps can read. |
| Check file | Lists every file and its fingerprint, so a change is easy to spot. |

Built to be trusted
What it does and doesn’t do
Will
- Keep imported messages exactly as received
- Keep names, redactions and notes in a separate, listed layer
- Mark deleted, edited and missing items instead of hiding them
- Show the time zone on every page
- Lock with Face ID and keep notifications discreet
Won’t
- Upload your chats, or ask for an account
- Recover messages that were deleted from your phone
- Let you change what someone said
- Claim an export is “certified” or guaranteed to be accepted
- Hide a price, surprise you with a charge, or ask for a review in exchange for anything
